This presentation and workshop will describe methods to reduce anxiety and stress-related symptoms. Dr. Milosavljevic will discuss her research from an integrative mind/body program she pioneered at Massachusetts General Hospital. This program decreased anxiety and increased wellness by using medical acupuncture, aromatherapy essential oils, and sound techniques. This morning presentation includes a session in meditation followed by an educational lecture.
Ms. Therese Bosshardt, Institute of HeartMath
The HeartMath® Institute has developed emWave® hardware/software technology which is based on two decades of research on the physiology of learning and optimal performance. EmWave® helps users learn techniques that induce a more “coherent” state which increases mental clarity, emotional stability, and peak performance. This technology includes an easy-to-use heart-rate monitoring device equipped with a pulse sensor plugged into a USB port. EmWave® collects and translates heart-rate variability (HRV) data into user-friendly graphics.
Mr. Charles Avery Fisher, President and Co-Founder Fisher Wallace Laboratories
The Fisher Wallace Stimulator® is a portable, self-administered cranial electrical stimulation (CES) device. It works by using safe, patented electrical stimulation to gently activate the brain’s production of serotonin, beta-endorphins, and other neurotransmitters required for healthy mood, sleep, and pain suppression. Clinically proven in multiple published studies, the Fisher Wallace Stimulator® is FDA-cleared, safe to use while taking medication, and often reduces symptoms within 2-4 weeks.
Dr. Richard Brown and Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, authors of The Healing Power of the Breath.
Dr. Brown and Dr. Gerbarg begin with a brief review of the neurophysiology, theoretical background, and clinical applications of powerful self- regulation strategies to improve well-being in healthcare providers and mental health in patients. Dr. Brown will lead an experiential introduction to breathing techniques that rapidly reduce anxiety and stress while improving mental focus and cognitive function. They will also discuss how to build upon this knowledge and use it in clinical practice.
